Offer Letter Virginia Tech – Ammar Ahmed Awan

Great Day! One of my students got a fully funded offer from Virginia Tech CS program. Here is the offer.

Great Day! One of my students got a fully funded offer from Virginia Tech CS program. Here is the offer.

Dear Ammar,

I am pleased to tell you that we are recommending you to the Virginia Tech Graduate School for admission into the PhD program in Computer Science. We are also pleased to offer financial support through a graduate assistantship. For the 2014-15 academic year, this support will be in the form of a Graduate Teaching Assistantship (GTA). The stipend for the initial GTA position is $1773 per month for the nine-month academic year. Your tuition will also be covered, and Virginia Tech offers support for health insurance premiums as well.

We are committed to funding PhD students such as yourself throughout their studies. Your financial support will continue for at least four years, assuming you continue to make good progress toward the completion of your degree. While your initial assignment will be as a GTA, the majority of PhD students are supported by a Graduate Research Assistantship (GRA) from individual faculty members or research groups by their second or third year.

We would be very pleased if you decide to accept this offer and join us in CS@VT. I am confident that you will fit in well with our program and that you will find the research and education environment here to be dynamic and rewarding. Please let me know if you have any questions. I ask that you respond to this offer (at least informally by email) by April 15.

Best regards,

Cal Ribbens
Associate Department Head
