Applying or have applied for Fulbright Scholarship? Not sure what’s the desired GRE score?

The Verbal and Quantitative sections of the GRE General exam are scored from 130–170 in one-point increments. The Analytical Writing section (also known as AWA) GRE is scored from 0 and 6 in half-point increments. Let’s take a look at the ideal scores on the GRE for the Fulbright program.

I have done MBA finance and have more than 05 years experience in the energy sector and want to pursue a master in Energy and Climate Policy related discipline through Fulbright from the top ranking university of America. I need you humble suggestion that after almost 07 years of gap in my last obtained degree would it be advisable to go for GRE and apply for Fulbright Scholarship 2021. If yes how much score I need to score in GRE?

    • Avatar

Fulbright does send 30-35% people with over 5 years of experience. In your case, given your discipline, you would need around 310 on the GRE. I would highly encourage you to apply as this is one of the preferential areas of Fulbright program.

Hello Danial. Your chances are very very high. Your profile is very strong. Anything above 310 is a fine GRE score.

    Hi Talha!

I am Muhammad Khawar Ali, a civil engineer by profession. I have 2 publications (not in very reputable journals) and 3.83 CGPA in BSc Civil Engineering. I have graduated from UET Taxila. My professional work experience is 4+ years and I have worked on a variety of positions including site engineer, research associate, construction management associate and junior construction manager. Currently I am serving as assistant engineer in LG&CD Punjab where I am overall incharge of three infrastructure projects (two ten-storey buildings and one road project). My GRE score is 322 (155V, 167Q, 3.5 AW) and in TOEFL, I scored 102/120. Now I am preparing for IELTS and hopefully I’ll be able to score 7.5-8.0 bands overall.

I want to pursue a master’s degree in construction management from a medium to high ranking US university on full-funding. Can you please assess my profile and suggest me some good universities to go? Thank you.

Hi Khawar – So for an exact program selection, you ll have to contact my team in Lahore. Contact Bilal there. He can be reached at 0331-4513196. If you just need a rough idea, in my view you can apply to 10-25 ranked programs in U.S. preferably state programs. Thanks

I am talking about fully-funded admission with the profile I have mentioned above.

        • Avatar

Very hard to get any significant funding for MS programs. Max some TAship initially and then maybe some RAship once you go there.

          • Avatar

Really? Is it that hard? I have seen a few students getting into US unis (e.g. Auburn University) on TA-ship without any publications or professional work experience. I have work experience, research experience, good GRE and TOEFL score, and still my chances are low. How come?

          • Avatar

I thought that I have a good profile for TA-ship since I know a few people who are studying on full-funding without any publication or work experience at all.

          • Avatar

Should I keep my hopes high? I don’t think my profile is that bad for full scholarshsip. Or is it?

          • Avatar

Profile isn’t bad – just that funding for MS is very rare. Program selection will be the key for you. Applying to the right program that gives funding to students in your field and to such profile will be of utmost importance. So focus on program selection!

Hi Talha, I have a bachelor’s in Electronics and am currently pursuing a 1.5 year B.ed diploma. I want to apply for graduate programs in education. My GRE score is 159 Q 167 V and 3.5 AW. Do you think my essay score is enough for me to apply for the Fulbright? Thanks!

    • Avatar

Hi Dania – AWA score is not important for GRE admissions. You have a great GRE score and should definitely feel confident.

      • Avatar

Ok Sir. I’ll take help from Brightlink Prep in future regarding the program selection and for that I will contact you very soon. I should mention it here that I am not just interested in one program (e.g. construction management) but other civil engineering programs (e.g. structural engineering) as well. One of your academy members Mudabbar-un-Noor got into UT Austin, perhaps in UT’s master in civil engineering program (majors in structural engineering, not sure about it) although his work experience was just two to three years. But I acknowledge that he had an impressive GRE score too. So I was optimistic about getting TA-ship.

Thank you so much for your reply. I feel much more confident in applying now.
