Here is a new way to do multiplication and it is easier than the method we usually know – moreover for the GMAT and GRE tests, this may save some time and reduce chances of error.
Most of us have learned multiplication using the method where we “carry” over different digits. But this method doesn’t do that – it simply involves multiplying using a box.
Here’s how it works:
Let’s multiply 23 by 7. First split the larger number into parts which makes 23 becomes 20 and 3.
Next, you multiply each separate part — 20 x 7 and 3 x 7.
Finally, you add all the products together. 140 + 21 equals 161, the product of 23 x 7.
